Ko-Fi?!

Hello Listeners!

The Wednesday Night Crew would like to bring you a better listening experience and a better website. This would require better recording equipment and more utility from our webpage. Ultimately, that means a greater financial investment than any one in our group can currently shoulder. So, in order to make that more of a reality…

We set up a Ko-Fi!

https://ko-fi.com/wednesdaynightgame

With your guys help, we can make the podcast better than ever!

Once we’ve gotten the recording quality where we’ve always wanted it to be and the website where we’ve come to realize it really needs to get to, we can start doing other things… But we’ll keep those under wraps for now. We’ll need to keep any goals realistic for the time being.

Thank you so much for your support in advance! You guys rock!

Enjoying the Show?

Are you having fun listening to our shenanigans?  Is there something you’d like to share with us?  We have a Twitter account @WedNightGame where you can show your support or feedback.  Kaetlyn will now be taking over our Twitter handle and is excited to talk with you all.  Please head over and show your support!  We also often post our latest episodes on Reddit via user Panwall under r/rpg so if Twitter isn’t your thing, you can look for us there too.  We hope to hear from you all soon, and as always, have fun!

Lost Mines of Phandelver – Session 16 Side A

Hello Listeners!

This week is Episode 32, Session 16 Side A, for the Lost Mines of Phandelver, the beginners adventure presented in the Dungeons and Dragons Starter Set.

You’ll hear Alex play Hal, a level 3 Bard. Kaetlyn plays Uitzash, a level 3 Warlock in service to Dendar. Kolton is playing Olo, a level 3 Tortle Barbarian. And Matt plays a level 3 Grung Wizard named Rwrarp (pronounced like a frog noise). Colin was DM’ing this game. We are using the Milestone leveling variant in this adventure.

Today you’ll hear the players save Gebbin from a Grick. Maybe that doesn’t sound like the most dramatic experience in D&D history but considering how low they characters are on class features and resources, it wasn’t the easiest task for them. It was also the source of a good amount of amusement for us a group and we hope that you enjoy it as much as we did. It also gave them an excuse to keep working on taming their new pet Owlbear!

*Disclaimer* Colin did forget the accent he established for the owlbear when we had started this recording session, so you will notice that he struggles to hold onto that voice during the course of the recording.

Please, enjoy the show!

Lost Mines of Phandelver – Session 15 Side B

Hello Listeners!

This week is Episode 31, Session 15 Side B, for the Lost Mines of Phandelver, the beginners adventure presented in the Dungeons and Dragons Starter Set.

You’ll hear Alex play Hal, a level 3 Bard. Kaetlyn plays Uitzash, a level 3 Warlock in service to a dark patron. Kolton is playing Olo, a level 3 Tortle Barbarian. And Matt plays a level 3 Grung Wizard named Rwrarp (pronounced like a frog noise). Colin was DM’ing this game. We are using the Milestone leveling variant in this adventure.

In today’s episode the characters finish up interrogating the Doppleganger, who actually manages to give them some useful information before he leaves. Rwrarp goes on a dungeon delve with a couple Goblins and they investigate a shrine hidden deep within Cragmaw Castle. And Olo goes to talk with the Owlbear! Turns out he can do that… cuz weird homebrew barbarian classes are weird. Cool… but weird.

Please, enjoy the show!

Lost Mines of Phandelver – Session 15 Side A

Hello Listeners!

This week is Episode 30, Session 15 Side A, for the Lost Mines of Phandelver, the beginners adventure presented in the Dungeons and Dragons Starter Set.

In this week’s adventure the characters manage to save Gundren Rockseeker from Cragmaw Castle! Then they interrogate a Doppleganger and get a surprisingly small amount of information out of him, mostly due to their own unfocused conversational tactics. … On second thought, it’s not that surprising after all.

Please, enjoy the show!

Lost Mines of Phandelver – Session 14 Side B

Hello Listeners!

This week is Episode 29, Session 14 Side B, for the Lost Mines of Phandelver, the beginners adventure presented in the Dungeons and Dragons Starter Set.

Today you’ll hear Alex play Hal, a level 3 Firbolg Bard. Kaetlyn play Uitzash, a level 3 Warlock in service to a dark patron. Kolton is playing Olo, a level 3 Tortle Barbarian. And Matt is playing a level 3 Grung Wizard named Rwrarp (pronounced like a frog noise). Colin was DM’ing this game. We are using the Milestone leveling variant in this adventure.

In today’s episode we have some combat to finish! And boy was it a doozy. There was a Dendarian Religious Revival, the threat of an untamed owlbear every turn, goblins betraying their kin, the introduction of a cute little puppy named Snarl (you’ll meet him later), some very good spell and ability use by Hal and Rwrarp (you’ll see exactly what I mean those happen), and so much more.

This was a really good combat, Listeners. It was made all the better because the foes that the heroes were facing kept coming after they’d been alerted by the sounds of fighting and the actions of the other NPCs. I was really happy that these encounters kindof spilled into each other one after another but that they didn’t all combine into one giant melee. This allowed the tension of the fight to remain high as the characters were hit by waves of enemies one after another with no time to rest in between and “reset” but it also didn’t overwhelm the players with a huge swarm of enemies that would have been insurmountable all at once.

This really enhances the climax of the battle and forces the players to use some abilities they might not have otherwise. You’ll see what I mean.

Also, there’s a lesson towards the end of this episode about carefully considering how your character’s spell effects impact the world beyond simply thinking about how they deal damage to enemies in a Rules as Written kindof way. To avoid spoilers, we won’t say anything more (just wanted to tease the end one final time). We might do an essay about that later on in the week, but we’ll see if Colin can find the time and motivation to do that. We’ll just leave you with the Pun-O-Meter for now.

No real puns this episode. The players were likely starting to feel the pressure from a complicated battle.

Please, enjoy the show!

Lost Mines of Phandelver – Session 14 Side A

Hello Listeners!

This week is Episode 28, Session 14 Side A, for the Lost Mines of Phandelver, the beginners adventure presented in the Dungeons and Dragons Starter Set.

This week Colin is forgetful so he’s about to make some mistakes about the fictional position of things.

In the actual game though, we start things off, as is tradition, with our recap and then with a roll for initiative! In the ensuing conflict, the crew’s new Owlbear gets set on some Hobgoblins and a cult of Maglubiyet arrives! Goblin is pitted against goblin. Spellcaster slings spell against spellcaster! It’s a chaotic time, but a good time.

Oh, the party also realizes that they need to tame the Owlbear before it’s going to be their reliable pet. So that was fun for them to figure out.

We got a couple puns in folks! Rejoice for the drought is over!

Please, enjoy the show!

A Call for Civil Liberty

Hello listeners,

Given the massive protests against police violence and systemic racism in the US, Wednesday Night Games has decided to hold this weeks episode in reserve.

Lots of companies are making donations to charities that help African American communities in these times but here at WNG we don’t have a steady stream of income to offer in support of the cause outside of what keeps us running in our day to day lives.

But we do have our Ko-Fi. So, anything that is donated to our Ko-Fi this week, we’ll turn around and donate to Black Lives Matter. Their message of full liberties for people of color and the end of white supremacy is one that we feel can best utilize our support in these times.

We also want to increase the awareness and support of local bailfunds for the areas where protests are ongoing nearly daily against police violence. These funds help to get civil protesters out of jail cells so they can keep doing their good work.

While we’re happy to pass along your donation, we don’t want you to have to use us as middlemen. If you’re unsure of where to donate, the links below will take you to some pretty good places to drop a few bucks for the cause against the systemic hate our congress people have allowed to go on for too long in the US.

Lost Mines of Phandelver – Session 13 Side B

Hello Listeners!

This week is Episode 27, Session 13 Side B, for the Lost Mines of Phandelver series! This is the beginners adventure presented in the Dungeons and Dragons Starter Set.

In this weeks adventure: gallows humor surrounding a Goblin Chef and a cooking pot! New recruits! And the players asking “Is this a tamable pet?!” in the most meme-able moment of our campaign to date! We had tons of fun to say the least.

Despite the outrageous comedic moments in this episode, we’re still pretty light on puns.

Please, enjoy the show!

Lost Mines of Phandelver – Session 13 Side A

Hello Listeners!

This week is Episode 26, Session 13 Side A, for the Lost Mines of Phandelver series! This is the beginners adventure presented in the Dungeons and Dragons Starter Set.

In this weeks adventure we come back from a long hiatus as recorders and players of the game. So we take a little bit of time to refocus and get back on track with what we were doing before and our synopsis was strikingly good considering how long it had been. The players then decided that a frontal assault on the castle was in order! This resulted in some immediate consequences… Such as Olo and Wrarp being viciously attacked by the not-so-strangely territorial inhabitants. We also meet some of those inhabitants and the guy in charge has an item that Olo desperately wants.

Please, enjoy the show!

Now, on to the show.

We are back this week with Episode 25, Session 12, Side B of the Lost Mines of Phandelver series! Which is the beginners adventure presented in the Dungeons and Dragons Starter Set.

In this week’s adventure, the players decide to send one of their goblin companions on to Cragmaw Castle to enact a potentially very smart plan. Then they venture forth themselves towards the destination! They arrive at the Castle and begin investigating with some newly acquired class features. We thoroughly enjoyed ourselves while recording this episode and hope that you do the same while listening.

Please, enjoy the show!

Lost Mines of Phandelver – Session 12 Side A

Hello Listeners!

Before we get to the game stuff this week, just wanted to give a quick shout out, you’ll hear our verbal rendition in the recording as well, to JRazzzle who is the first person to donate to our Ko-Fi. Thanks again JRazzzle!

Now, on to the show.

We are back this week with Episode 24, Session 12, Side A of the Lost Mines of Phandelver series! Which is the beginners adventure presented in the Dungeons and Dragons Starter Set.

The characters deliberate a little bit before deciding to make some final preparations in Phandalin and striking out to Cragmaw Keep! Lead by their goblin… Captive? Friend? Ally? … Let’s go with ally. Droop leads them towards where he remembers the castle is and we have a little bit of a travel montage on the way there. Then we make camp. Wait… did we accidentally go back to Torchbearer? What’s happening…

I know it’s a 1 ‘cuz I wasn’t upset by the time I was done editing the episode.

Please, enjoy the show!
