Lost Mines of Phandelver – Session 21 Side B

Hello Listeners!

This week is Episode 43, Session 21 Side B, for the Lost Mines of Phandelver, the beginners adventure presented in the Dungeons and Dragons Starter Set.

You’ll hear Alex play Hal, a level 4 Bard. Kaetlyn plays Uitzash, a level 4 Warlock in service to Dendar. Kolton is introducing Krask, a level 4 Lizardfolk Paladin. And Matt plays a level 4 Grung Wizard named Rwrarp (pronounced like a frog noise). Colin was DM’ing this game. We are using the Milestone leveling variant in this adventure.

After their final triumph over the Flame Skull last week, we move into some exploration of the dungeon again. The players really want to find out what that “Booming” sound is, so they head off in that direction. What they find… is a lovely but horrifying surprise!

While the players handle some repercussions from casting some rather loud spells during the fight, they discover a new danger from another part of the dungeon and come to realize that their trial with the Flame Skull is not over yet.

No puns this week; they were too stressed out.

This week is Episode 41, Session 20 Side B, for the Lost Mines of Phandelver, the beginners adventure presented in the Dungeons and Dragons Starter Set.

You’ll hear Alex play Hal, a level 4 Bard. Kaetlyn plays Uitzash, a level 4 Warlock in service to Dendar. Kolton is introducing Krask, a level 4 Lizardfolk Paladin. And Matt plays a level 4 Grung Wizard named Rwrarp (pronounced like a frog noise). Colin was DM’ing this game. We are using the Milestone leveling variant in this adventure.

Remember how last week the players were on fire with jokes? This week the characters are just on fire.

Because Flame Skull.

This is their first major conflict with a spellcaster enemy. We’re not counting the joke of a slaughter that they committed against Glasstaff and the Maglubiyet goblin priest. Those guys were sub-level 3. Chump change. The Flame Skull counts as a 5th level spellcaster. That means 3rd levels spells; the unofficial non-“baby” spells. I’m talking about Fireball folks.

This might be the most tense fight they’ve had since the goblin ambush on the road all the way back in Episode 1 of this series… But not for the reason you’d think.

We discover, and are not surprised to find out, that Zombies are nothing to an Owlbear. We also discover that Uitzash is the true animal handler of the group.

This week is Episode 40, Session 20 Side A, for the Lost Mines of Phandelver, the beginners adventure presented in the Dungeons and Dragons Starter Set.

You’ll hear Alex play Hal, a level 4 Bard. Kaetlyn plays Uitzash, a level 4 Warlock in service to Dendar. Kolton is introducing Krask, a level 4 Lizardfolk Paladin. Today, the players are on fire with the jokes!

But also the characters decide to delve deeper into the mines. They deploy Linguine and Greg to scout ahead, form a plan on what to do next, and then plunge forward with that idea in hand!

This results in initiative being rolled.

I mean… this is Dungeons and Dragons after all.

This week is Episode 39, Session 19 Side B, for the Lost Mines of Phandelver, the beginners adventure presented in the Dungeons and Dragons Starter Set.

Today, exploring the dungeon continues as we head yet deeper into the lost mines. The player’s first decision point brings them into contact with some bugbears who seem to be barricaded in a room. Krask doesn’t want to ask questions, so tactical combat ensues!

Big news about something that happens during this combat folks; showstopping puns are back!!!

Enough of them to put the POM up to 3, even!
